Flemington-Kensington Church News,  October 1918

9366- Driver J. A.T. Bale, No. 4 Co. A.M.C.,  1st Aust. Div. Train, enlisted 23rd June 1915, and sailed for Egypt on the 5th of the following January. After a few months in that interesting country he was sent to England for service. During leave he managed to see many places of interest. After 12 months in England our Soldier was sent to France where he has been ever since. In the course of his service he has moved  a  good deal up and down the lines and  seen the devastation worked by the Hun. He is greatly  struck by the beauty of France in the full tide of summer  and by  the profusion of flowers. In a letter received last mail he says:-"Have been lucky enough so far to dodge the Hun and have hopes of doing so  until the end of the war, which I think is not far off now." We sincerely hope that  good fortune will continue to follow his footsteps.

Returned to Australia 4.6.1919.
