Red Cross Wounded and Missing Bureau Correspondence
This fellow was in the Signallers and his name was Alf. He met with an accident at Cellar Farm Sap when he was at the telephone. A chap was charging bombs at the time and he dropped one and it had the pin out and he only had five seconds to throw it away as far as he could. It fell alongside Bryant and wounded him mortally. Pte Bryant was taken to the hospital and he died of wounds on the 7th August and he is buried there I believe. Informant Sig. Pearson 233 H S "St David", BOULOGNE 4.12.16.
Informant says that Bryant died in August of wounds, the result of an accident. "Some chaps were fixing bombs and one pulled out the pin and Bryant was badly hit" The man who did it reported it at once. Bryant was a signaller. He was at nearest hospital to Fromelles and would be buried from there; name of Hospital no known. Reference: J W Bonnick, 193 29th Australian Imperial Force 3rd London General Hospital Wandsworth SW
