"10th Australian Light Trench Mortar Btty. Corporal (Lance Sergeant) Vere Robert CAIRD. This NCO has acted as Battery Clerk since his unit was formed. His conspicuous good work as such, and his devotion to duty has always been admirable and has set a very fine example to the men who have come under his administration. He has not left the Battery since its being formed. His service as clerk has helped in a very great degree to the good working of the Battery. (Sgd) J G Major General GOC Third Australian Division.
