Recommendation for Military Medal.

"This NCO was a No 1 of X/1/A Battery on the occasion of he raid on night of 2nd/3rd July 1916.

This Battery had been ordered to fire on the TADPOLE, previous to the raid by 11th Battalion, for

a period of 13 minutes.  On opening fire they were subjected to a terrific hostile fire - high

explosive, shrapnel and minnenwerfers.  After nine minutes a hostile shell (heavy H E) killed the

whole detachment of No 3 Mortar.  The remaining three mortars, by the example of their numbers

one, still remained in action for the rest of the allotted period, though subjected to heavy fire".
