Corporal Bugler W. J. Connell (wounded) is a son of Lieutenant-Quartermaster G. Connell, of Parkside, South Australia, who for 25 years held the position of drill instructor on the permanent staff of the S.A.M.F. Corporal Connell was corporal bugler of the Irish corps from its formation. Corporal Connell was a married man, and resided with his wife and child at Lamb street, Moonee Ponds.

Corporal Bugler W. J. Connell, of Moonee Ponds, who was severely wounded in the landing at Gallipoli, and was invalided home last July, having sufficiently recovered from his wounds, has left Melbourne again to rejoin his old unit - the 7th Battalion - at the front.
