The Honour Board , built around a door opening, was removed and put into storage when the original timber building was demolished and the current brick building erected.  When the board was sought to restore to the new clubrooms, it had vanished, current whereabouts not known.

ROWING BARWON REGATTA.

ESSENDON WIN SENIOR EIGHT,

MAIDEN EIGHT AND MAIDEN FOUR.

"TOM CARLYON" CUP FINALLY WON BY ESSENDON.

The annual Barwon Regatta was held on Saturday last at Geelong, and proved a great success. The weather was beautiful for a water carnival, despite the fact that the morning train, by which most of the oarsmen travelled, passed through a violent thunder storm at Lara. Competitors and visitors had visions of a miserable day, but were agreeably disappointed. The racing, in a number of cases, was very close, especially the Senior Eights, when half a length only separated Ballarat, Essendon and Albert Park over the greater part of the course. The Junior Eight was also a fine contest. Civil Service and Corio Bay, after rowing a deadheat, re-rowed the event, and Corio just won by two feet.

The Essendon Club had a most successful day, winning the Senior Eight, Maiden Eight and Maiden Four. In the Senior Eight they got off to a good start, and Essendon were the first to show out from Albert Park and Ballarat, and at the half mile had a good half length, with Albert Park and Ballarat about level. This order was maintained till about 150 yards from home, when Ballarat threw out a challenge and began to move up. The rowing of all crews was beautiful at this stage. Essendon to a man responded to the call of their stroke to quicken, and "took her home" by the margin of half a length amid the tumultuous cheering of their supporters on the bank.

Mr. H. R. Newall was lifted out of the boat and duly chaired to the dressing sheds. The personnel of the crew was R. Jackson, 10st. (bow); J. Grieves, 11 st. 2lbs. (2); A. Kelly, 10st. 8lbs. (3); J. Richardson, 11st. (4); A. F. Wishart, 12st. 3lbs. (5): G. Sullivan, 13st. 6lbs. (6); F. McGregor, 13st. 10lbs. (7); H. R. Newall, 11st. 12 bs. (stroke); W. Irving, cox.

In the Maiden Eight first heat Essendon met South Melbourne, and got away to a good start. About half way Essendon were rowing a nice stroke, and had about a quarter of a length on South, when South unfortunately "crabbed," and lost two lengths before they got going again. They kept pluckily on, but were defeated by a length and a half by Essendon, who were rowing easily. In the final Essendon easily defeated Barwon and Wendouree. The crew was - W. Tyzack, 9.5 (bow); F. Wishart, 11.0 (2); T. Cashen, 11.2 (3); H. La Roche, 12.5 (4); S Park, 12.5 (5); A. Pearce. 11.10 (6); B. Mathieson, 10.6 (7); E. Salamon, 9.5 (stroke); W. Irving, cox.

The first heat of the Maiden Four was very exciting between Essendon, Banks and Hawthorn. Hawthorn dropped back at half a mile, and Banks and Essendon were still fighting strenuously. They were level at 150 yards from the post, and the pace was a cracker, but Banks could not last, and Essendon won by three quarters of a length. In the final Essendon won the Maiden Four from Corio Bay by three lengths. The crews consisted of N. Muir 10.0 (bow); R. Mullett, 12.0 (2); A. J. Shaw, 13.2 (3); L. Doig. 10.6 (stroke); W. Smith, cox. The club also entered a light weight four, and won their heat easily, but were beaten in the final by Ballarat. The winning of the Senior Eight puts Essendon ahead on the points for the senior premiership. They are now 20; Ballarat 18, being second, and Albert Park 12, third. As this is the third time Essendon have won the Maiden Eight at Barwon, they now finally hold the much-coveted "Tom Carlyon" Cup, which is a very fine silver cup, valued at £36. The other clubs with legs-in were Corio Bay twice and Footscray once. The two winning eights were coached by Mr. Jas. Blair, and the Maiden Four by Mr W. Evans.

The Essendon Club are holding the annual combination Fours next Saturday.

A well-merited compliment was paid to Mr. A. P. Watson by the members of the Essendon Rowing Club at the annual meeting, held last week, by electing him president of the club in place of the late Mr. A. McCracken. For many years Mr. Watson has been a vice-president, and it can be easily said that all the years he has held this office he has thrown himself heart and soul into the doings of the members. As an extra compliment he was presented with the Carlyon Cup, which the club's maiden eight had won at the Barwon regatta. The club had a most successful season, occupying second place on the list in both senior and junior premierships, and for the first time in its history were represented in the championship eights, also entering crews for the championship pairs and fours. In all three races the crews gave good accounts of themselves, rowing into good positions with a certain amount of bad luck. For the first time a senior eight represented the club, which won a splendid race at Geelong after being beaten by a very small margin at Ballarat the previous week. Although the membership roll is small compared with some of the   larger metropolitan clubs, no fewer than 30 of the club's members have enlisted with the Expeditionary Forces, and among those who have en listed are such well-known names as H. R. Newall who stroked all the successful crews last season; A. Wishart, L. J. Ennis, T. Morrow, J. Blair, O. Tyzack, A. Evans, and many others.

ESSENDON CLUB

The roll of honor of the Essendon Rowing Club contains the names of forty-eight members who have responded to the call to the colors, which is an excellent record. It is to be regretted, however, that six of these men, namely L. J. Ennis, S. Golding, E. Middleton. F. Naylor, E. Salamon, and G. Wippell have made the supreme sacrifice, and in the annual report submitted to members last Saturday night, it was stated that their loss was keenly felt. The names of those members still on active service are: — B. V. Bouring, J. Blair, S. Cock, J. Cotter, G. Dobney, L. Doig, A. Evans, S. Evans, J. Grieves, J. Harding, L. T. Harding, W. ROWING

ESSENDON CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the Essendon Rowing Club was held on Saturday evening, at the Albert Hall, Moonee Ponds. The club has long since outgrown its present boathouse accommodation, and a site has been granted to the club for a new boathouse in Maribyrnong Park. Already a substantial sum of money is in hand towards this, and the local council has granted the use of Queen's Park for holding a fete for this fund in November. Many of the club's soldier members have returned from active service, and with the recent influx of new members the prospects for the coming season are particularly bright. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows;-President, Mr. A. P. Watson; captain, Mr. W. Birkenhead; Vice-captain, Mr. L Doig; hon. secretary, Mr. N. S. Muir; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. L. Bowring; committee, Messrs. F. Dadswell, D. Hogan, J. Wishart, H. la Roche, and J. Grieves.
