AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS
Lieutenant (temporary Captain) FREDERICK GEORGE HINDS During the attack on Mont St Quentin, near Peronne, on the 31st August, 1918, the right flank of the battalion was seriously threatened at a time when the front line was thinly held, owing to heavy casualties from intense machine gun and trench-mortar fire. Noticing this, without hesitation he led the Company over the open ground from the support line in the face of heavy concentrated fire,
and re-inforced the front line, thus securing the position. His
initiative in quickly grasping the situation and his quick decision
regardless of personal safety showed a high standard of courage
and leadership.
