On Saturday, July 29, a farewell was given to Private Robert, son of Mr. R. Manderson, J.P., Essendon, who sailed with the 24th Battalion on last week. A very pleasant evening was spent, the company uniting in wishing the young soldier the best of good luck on the field of battle, and a safe and speedy return home.

The only three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Manderson have now answered the Nation's call. Ernest and Albert have been in France for some months, a cable received on August 1st stating they were well, and in the firing line.

ROLL OF HONOUR

A rather interesting relic from the sea in the form of a message from Private Robt. Manderson (24th Battalion) now on his way to the front, was sent to his father, Mr. R. Manderson, J.P., Essendon. The message was in a bottle, and had been in the sea twenty days when found by a returned soldier walking on the beach at Pt. McDonnell, South Australia, who kindly sent it on. The letter stated all on board were well and having a good time. Needless to say, the soldier's parents greatly prize the message delivered in so unique a way.
