Essendon Gazette 12 August 1915

A social evening was held at the Moonee Ponds West Methodist Church on Monday evening as a send-off to several young men from the Church who have joined the colours, and are leaving shortly. The Rev. W. C.  Bridgborn occupied the chair and paid a high compliment to the young men of that Church, as no less than 21 had enlisted, many of them being at the front ; others in Egypt, and the remainder in camp. Those who were farewelled on this occasion were John Mansfield, Percy Sweatman, Charles Shurey, John Harvey and Hugh Hall. A very pleasant evening was spent, musical and vocal items being contributed by Misses Williams and Vinnard and Messrs. Levrington and Ireland.
