The centre shop in this group was number 17 Buckley Street where the Non-Commissioned Officers' Club was located in 1916.
ESSENDON CITIZENS' MILITARY ASSOCIATION
Financial assistance from the association was rendered in the furnishing of club-rooms in each area for the use of non-commissioned officers. It was felt that the establishment of these would be a means of encouraging youths to qualify for the position of non-coms.

Non-Coms. Picture Night.
The non-commissioned officers of the N.C.O. Club, 58A, will hold a picture night at the Moonee Ponds Theatre on December 9th. The takings will help to provide for the buying of a billiard table and other club necessities, and tickets are obtainable from all members. The club has been in existence about five months, and is now going in full swing.

N.C.O. CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING.
About six months ago a club for non-commissioned officers was promoted by Capt. H. Chapman, but was not such a success as was expected, as the late area officer had not the time at his disposal to attend to it. Since the arrival of Lt. Salmon, however, the club has made great progress, with the result that a two-storey building in Buckley street has been rented, a handsome billiard table purchased, a dry canteen erected, and a boxing room and library, with reading room, furnished; in addition there are draughts, chess, quoits, cinematographs, and, in short, everything for the instruction and amusement of non-coms. Last Saturday night, Capt. Kerr (area officer 58A and 58B) came down and opened the club, with a very suitable address to the cadets present. He stated his intention to consolidate both areas, uphold the non-coms in the handling of cadets, and to endorse their every action. This will be a great thing for 58A, and with such a capable officer, as Capt. Kerr behind them non-coms will find their work easy in maintaining discipline in the ranks. After the billiard table had been declared ready for use, a match was played by Lts. Salmon and Johnson, the former winning easily. Lt. Brown proposed a vote of thanks to Capt. Kerr for his kindness in being present to open the club, and this was seconded by Lt. Ellis. Capt. Kerr suitably responded.
Speeches were made by the following gentlemen: -Lts. Salmon, Johnson, Martin, Mr. Jobson and Mr. Ellis, the latter promising the club a donation of a clock, and receiving hearty applause. Games were continued until 11 o'clock, when the visitors departed after supper had been partaken of. In future, the club will be open every night till 10.30, visitors being always welcome. Great things are predicted for the future of the club.

Area Military Club.
A billiard tournament has been in progress for the past two weeks for a prize presented to the club by Mr. Pratt of Holmes road. All the members entered, and according to merit each received a handicap. Cpl.L. Gosling (receives 18) was the winner, with Pte. O. L. Jones (25) runner-up. The games were most interesting throughout, and some close finishes resulted. The tournament was conducted by the manager of the club. Mr. F. E. Robinson and 2nd Lt. J. Ellis. The club has been, making great headway lately, and the parents of members are invited by the management to call in and see the club in progress any evening.

58A Military Club.
On Saturday night last, the members of the above club gathered together to tender a send off to one of their number, Pte Baglin, who will shortly leave for the front. Lieut. E. E. Salmon occupied the chair, and spoke in eulogistic terms of the guest who was formerly a sergeant in the cadets. A pocket book, inscribed with autographs of the club members was presented to Pte. Baglin, who returned thanks. Musical items helped to make the evening pass pleasantly.
