SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES.

The result of the examination of candidates for the 200 Instructional Staff noncommissioned officers required by the Defence department was made known this afternoon. In all 1504 candidates applied, representing New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, West Australia and Tasmania, and of those 212 have successfully passed the physical and educational tests. The total number wanted was 200, but the department has decided to enrol the 212 who secured the required marks. 0f the 533 applications from Victoria, 59 were rejected as unsuitable, 81 absented themselves from, the medical test, and 134 failed to pass the doctors. Out of the 259 who passed the medical test 39 did not turn up for the educational examination. The number of Victorians who passed was 95, or 15 more than the State's allotted quota.
The distinction of obtaining the highest number of marks fell to a Victorian, Staff Quartermaster L. C. James, of the 7th Light Horse, gaining that honor.
