THE CHEER-UP BRIGADE

The ladies of the Cheer-up Brigade are still engaged in the good work to which

they have devoted themselves for the past 12 months. The object of the "Cheer-ups"

is to make the men in camp feel that they have friends who take an interest in them,

and the pleasure they are able to give the soldiers who are away from home is suf-

ficient recompense for the toil of getting over wet and rough roads to Maribyrnong

Camp on Sunday afternoons, when tea is dispensed, provided by the ladies, who levy

on willing givers for the weekly supplies. This is supplemented by a sacred concert

in the Y.M.C.A. tent. This touch of home life is greatly appreciated, and the soldiers

look forward with genuine pleasure to these pleasant Sunday afternoons.

It is the intention of these ladies to provide a genuine Christmas dinner at the

camp, when goods in kind or monetary gifts will be thankfully received at this

office: or by Mrs. H. Adams, 32 Locke st., Essendon when they will be duly acknow-

ledged .
