MILITARY MEDAL WON.
Private Alexander Bertram has been awarded the military medal. He is a son of Mr and Mrs G. Bertram, of Laura street Moonee Ponds. Private Bertram enlisted in the 6th Field Ambulance in March, 1915, and with the exception of a few days leave granted  to him to visit his relations in Scotland he has been on active service ever since. He served in Gallipoli and Egypt, and has been slightly wounded in France. He has a brother serving with the New Zealand forces.

Recommended for Military Medal

 

During operations at MESSINES on 8th/10th June 1917 he worked indefatigably in carrying back wounded. He several times crossed a zone of intense artillery fire in order to assist in carrying wounded men out of danger. He has a long record of continuous good work.
