For meritorious service and devotion to duty. During the period ..... to Sep 15/16 1918 he showed on many occasions a very fine spirit & great endurance which set an example to the other men of his Company. During April & May as a Driver of a Battalion Supply wagon his coolness under shell fire many times set a fine example to other drivers which went far to ensure the safe delivery of his & other Battalions supplies. During the period Sep 16/17 to Dec 31 1918 the services he rendered to his company were invaluable. Whilst the advance in August was on he was the first to offer his services for any difficult work that had to be carried out.
