OUR SOLDIERS
The following letter was received by Mrs. Fred. Fox, sister of Private Harry Bulman, who has since been killed in action after 15 months' service:
I would have written to you before, only we have been having a lively time of it. Nothing but guns roaring day and night. We are used to it. It is a great life; we are always on the go. We are having some lovely weather at present, and everything looks nice and green. The crops are as good as I have seen, and there are plenty of wild flower here-white daisies, poppies, buttercups, and plenty of roses, all different colours. It's not bad over here. I don't mind it in the least, and we get plenty to eat. There were four of us to eat 20 eggs, and we had a good "blow out" of spring onions and lettuces and vinegar yesterday. We have some very rough times, but that's nothing. You don't want to get disappointed when you don't hear from me, as we get in some funny places at times. We never know where we are going until we get there. It's like an old saying. "We don't get much money, but we have plenty of fun."
It's nearly fourteen months since I left Melbourne; it seems years; but I don't think it will last too long now. I would not be surprised to be home by Christmas. There are not too many of the old boys left with us now. I think we are sticking out well. We have some of the best officers with us. The officers in my company are very good. They will always do me.
