The Victorian and South Australian Contingents of the 1st Australian Navy and Military

Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) on parade, 1914.  AWM 305442.

 

Although no embarkation roll seems to have been prepared for the first Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force that went to German New Guinea, William John Looby's name and address appeared in a list published in The Argus on 14 September 1914.

Prior to the joining the RAN in 1914 he was in the Victorian Navy on a N.Z. ship called the Psyche, and also the Challenger.
