The Men Who Returned
Private JOHN H. CARSE, son of Mr. H. Carse, of Avenel, enlisted on the 3rd of July, 1915, and embarked with the 6th Reinforcements to the 24th Battalion on the transport Ulysses on the 27th of October. He was transferred to the 60th Battalion in Egypt on the 26th of February, 1916, and, on the 18th of March, was transferred to the 5th Divisional Artillery and posted to the 115th Howitzer Battery. He went to France with his
unit on the 19th of June, and later on was transferred to the 14th Field Artillery Brigade. He was wounded in action on the 6th of September, 1917, and was invalided to England. He returned to Australia as an invalid on the transport Arawa on the 17th of November, 1918. Prior to enlisting, he was teaching at the Essendon High School.
