PROMOTION.

 

Mrs. Cecil Chenhall, "Waverton" [Byron] street, Ascot Vale, has been notified [that] her husband, Sergt. Cecil Chenhall [has] been granted his commission. Lieutenant Chenhall before enlisting held the [rank] of Lieutenant in the 58th Battalion, [Es]sendon Rifles, but resigned his [commis]sion and joined up as a private [in the] 39th Battalion A.I.F., and before [embark]ing had gained the rank of sergeant, [and] since being in France has seen [much of] the heavy fighting. He is the third [son of] Mr. and Mrs. Clenhall, of Byron street, Moonee Ponds, and brother of L [Cpl] Hedley Chenhall, 58th Battalion [AIF] who is also on active service in France.
