Extracts from the Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau Correspondence

Pte C Bush  has asked me to answer your letter of the 14th inst and as I was the late C H Christensen's platoon Sgt I have much pleasure in doing so.  On Christmas Eve we were being strafed by the Boche and he was landing those wretched minenwerfer somewhere near our front line.  One came near Christensen and blew him about seven yards away, badly knocking him about, death being instantaneous.  Next morning he was taken out and buried in a soldier's cemetery at Erquinghem, near Armentieres. if I visit the place again I will endeavour to locate the exact spot where he was buried.

He was only a slight lad, not very tall, about 5 feet 2" I should  imagine, fair hair and either 18 or 19 years of age.  He was a good lad all through and I was extremely sorry to lose him.  If there is anything else I can do, I will only be too pleased to help you.
