-----
He was my Company Clerk, and was with me when he was killed by shell fire on 23rd August close by Proyart Railway Station. We were supporting the 5th Battalion in an attack and were about 1000 yards behind the front line. It was about 5 am. He was the last casualty of the day in our Company. He was hit just above the right hip and died soon after. I wrote a letter to his brother giving full details. Informant - Capt H J Knight 7th Battalion AIF
