Mr. and Mrs. Cook, Smith street, Kensington, have received word that their son, Sgt. A. W. Cook, has been awarded the Military Medal. He enlisted in July, 1915,  and has been wounded on two occasions.

Sergeant Andrew William COOK

On the night 1st/2nd May, 1918, he was a member of a raiding party, and displayed great gallantry and deevotion to duty. After two enemy posts had been driven back to the main line, he stood at the enemy wire and engaged an enemy machine gun with bombs, thus preventing the gun from firing, and covering the withdrawal of the raiding party with their wounded.  He remained there until wounded in the hand.

Strength of party 2 off 30 ORs.
