Extract from Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing Enquiries Bureau Correspondence
I knew casualty. He was about 5 ft 6 ins, very stout, fair complexion, about 21 years of age, known as "Pat" and comes from Ascot Vale. Casualty was in the front line trench on the other side of Polygon Wood, Ypres. A shell exploded killing Casualty and two others instantly. I was 20 yds away and I buried him just near where he fell. I was an eye-witness. He was well known and like by his comrades".
