SUMNER.-In loving memory of my darling son,
Lance-Corporal Roy Gordon Sumner, died of
wounds in France, March 26, 1918, loving
brother of Claude and Gladys* (on active
service), Stanley** (on active service), A.I.F.,
aged, 23 years 10 months.
Egypt. Gallipoli. France.
Far, far away my darling lies,
I would lay there, too.
With my head at rest on hs quiet breast,
Sleeping beneath God's blue.
I could not speak the last good-bye,
But I kissed him o'er and o'er,
As I watched him go with a heart of woe,
Go to come back no more.
My life must go on, though my heart may be
breaking,
Till earth's night is finished and life's journey is o'er,
But he will weight with a smile and a welcome,
Where sadness and sorrow and pain are unknown,
And God in His infinite mercy will call me
To rest with my loved one before His great
throne.
My soldier laddie.
