The proprietors and staff of this journal took the opportunity of farewelling one of its members on Saturday last. Signaller W. G. F. Davies has enlisted and expects to leave Australia very soon. Mr. S. A. Mott, on behalf of the firm and staff, presented Signaller Davies with a fountain pen, and while sorry to lose his services on the staff, was proud he had done the right thing in enlisting and offering to do his bit for the country. Each member of the staff added his quota, and all wished Signaller Davies bon voyage and a safe return, assuring him of a welcome when he arrived back. A fitting response was made by the young soldier.

Signaller Frank Davies, of Moonee Ponds, and who, before enlisting was on the staff of this paper, writes a cheery little note from France, stating he is enjoying himself as much as pos sible under the circumstances. The ground was frozen hard at the time of writing, but this was preferable to the mud. The boys were glad to hear that America is coming in, and hope this will shorten the war. Signaller Davies eulogises the work of the Australian Comforts Fund and the Y.M.C.A., and owing to these organisations the Australians have a very good time when out of the line.
