Lieut J D Dewar, 4th Pioneers, sailed from Brisbane on 21st October, 1916, in charge of the 6th Reinforcements of the 4th Pioneers. On arrival in England was camped at Lark Hill first and then at Tidworth. He crossed over to France in March last. He saw Lieut Les Bignell, who had returned to France after a long spell in England owing to his wounds and also saw Lieut J C Todd. Lieut Dewar is enthusiastic in his praise of the work of the YMCA.

"Dewar, James Dalzell. He was born 5th April 1890, and educated at this school.
He was a civil engineer until his enlistment, 26th April 1916. He became a Lieutenant
in the Pioneers, 4th Battalion, and fought in France and Gallipoli, at Messines, on the
Somme, at Wychaete, at Polygon Wood, Anzac Ridge, Passchendale, Villiers Brettoneaux,
and on Aug 8th 1918 through the last offensive to the Hindenburg Line. After the war
he resumed his previous occupation".
