OBITUARY.

MR. FRANCIS DICKINSON.

Mr.Francis Dickinson died last night shortly before 11. o'clock at his residence, Oram street, Shepparton, from heart trouble, at the comparatively early age of-52 years. The funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday), leaving his late residence at 2.30 p.m. He leaves a widow and family of four—three sons and a daughter. His sons have specially distinguished themselves, and conferred honor on their deceased father by having joined the Australian Expeditionary Forces at an early stage of the war. All   three have won commissions and are still at the front. The eldest is Captain Sydney Dickinson, 27; and his brothers are Lieutenant Harold Dickinson, 26; and Lieutenant Vincent Dickinson, 21. The only sister is Miss Ureenia Dickinson, aged 16 years.

Their father, with a residence of only two and a half years in Shepparton was one of its best known and most popular residents. He was an active worker in connection with the Methodist church, and was a useful member of the choir. His profession, that of inspector of agents in the Goulburn Valley and Riverina, for the National Life, Assurance Coy. took him often away from home for weeks at a stretch, and he was well known throughout the eastern States of the Commonwealth.

The deceased gentleman had athletic proclivities in his youth, and he was wont to attribute his heart trouble to a strain. He was a native of the Ballarat district. The family carried on lucrative meat preserving works, etc., on the bank of the Yarrowee at Sebastapol for many years. Mr. Dickinson latterly had a store keeping business at Thorpdale, but the sedentary life did not suit him, and he went to Malvern. He lived there for about four years, and then came to Shepparton. Of recent years he suffered much from occasional attacks of angina pectoris. On Monday morning he was preparing to leave on a protracted country tour. Whilst harnessing his ponies he became very ill. Dr. W. H. Gaze was called in to see him that night, and every known remedy was tried, but without avail. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved family in their loss. The deceased's father, Mr. Robert Dickinson, is living at Queenscliff. A brother is in Melbourne, and an other one holds a commission as Captain on active service in France.
