Roger resigned from the AIF to take up a commission with the British Army, as a Lieutenant in the First Essex Regiment, according to a letter on his AIF filed dated 24 July 1917.   An early notation on his file says that he "refused promotion at Broadmeadows to remain with his old friends, 58 Essendon Rifles".  Discharged 5 April 1915 in Egypt.

 

Granted Temporary Commission in Imperial Army on 19 April 1915. Later served in Gallipoli and France.
