On arrival in Port Said in March 1917, Eddie was briefly taken on strength of the Details Camp at Moascar, and subsequently to 4 Light Horse Regiment in April and promoted to Acting Sergeant.   In September he reverted to the rank of Trooper and was transferred to the 1 Australian Light Car Patrol where he remained until returned to Australia in March 1919.

 

On page 201 of Pioneers of Australian Army in the Great War there is a group photo which includes Alexander Eddie. The source of the photo is an album held at the Australian Tank Museum.
