------------

Allan Evans was a private in C Company, 10th Platoon, 6th Battalion, tall, dark, thin.  I was alongside him when he was killed on the 9th August about 5.30 pm just before sundown.  Was hit in the head by a machine gun bullet and killed instantly.  We had just reached our objective.  He was hit just as we were getting into the trench where we stopped that night.  It was in the attack on Lihons Ridge in front of Rozieres.  I did not see him buried or see his grave.

Dear Madam,

As I am expecting to set out for Germany in a few days I find it impossible to do anything with the enclosed letter, and I would be most grateful if you could send his mother any information.  I do not remember the lad's unit. His name is Alan P R Evans and I saw him last in Le Havre in June or July.
