46th Btn LATIMER, H L/Cpl 3813 Killed in action 15/11/16
"I knew casualty. He was a man about 5 ft 8ins, well built, dark complexion, about 20 years of age, known as "Bert". A shrapnel shell exploded near Casualty a piece entering the back of his left arm. As soon as he was hit he said "I'm done" and died immediately afterwards. I was 10 yds away from Casualty at the time of his death. He was buried 20 yds from where he was killed and his helmet was placed over his grave to indicate the spot and I helped to bury him. Act Sgt Howe No 4982 46th Btn.

LATIMER-Killed in action, in France, on
15th November, 1910, Lance Corporal
Herbert Reginald (Bert), the dearly beloved
eldest son of Ernest and Nellie Latimer, of
Strathmore, Daisy street, Essendon, and
dearly loved brother of Sydney (on active
service abroad), and Sylvie, aged 23 years
and 5 months; grandson of Mrs Hunt,
1008 Drummond street, North Carlton.
Gone is the face we loved so dear,
Silent the voice we long to hear.
His country called and honour bade him go
To battle 'gainst a grim and deadly foe,
He helped to bring Australia into fame,
To build for her a never-dying name
Foremost was be in thickest strife.
For King and country laid he down his life.

In Memoriam
LATIMER.—In loving memory of our dearly loved
son, L.-Cpl. H. R. (Bert), aged 23 years, who was
killed in action, Nov. 14, 1916, 46th Batt, loved
brother of Sylvie and Sydney (on active service
abroad). Also a tribute to his late comrade, Pte.
H. Landon, who was killed in action, Oct. 1, 1917.
Two of Australia's best.
Time may soothe a broken heart.
Time may make a wound less sore,
But time can never stop the longing
For our dear ones gone before.

loved brother of Syd. (returned), and Sylvie.
'Tis not the tears at the moment shed
That tell how beloved is the soul that's fled;
It's the silent tears of the long days wept,
And the loving remembrance for ever kept.
