My Dear Old Alfred

Just a line or two to say good by and all sorts of good luck to you.

I am going to give you some tips which I feel sure you will carry out.  1st do not lose your temper with your superior officers it will pay you in the long run to be respectful.  Keep out of drafts your feet keep warm and dry see that you always have a cholera belt on don't take any unnecessary risks with horses.  If you are in the company of undesirables think of your mother don't take spirits but a glass of beer occasionally will do no harm. Write home when you have an opportunity don't forget me.  I suppose the Hotel Continental will find me in Calcutta.  Sorry I can give no dates when you should write to me say about February 1915 and continue (perhaps on second consideration it would be better Army Remount Depot Alipore) address letter to)  Should I not be home in time to see you off good by Alfred and God bless you may you come home sound and well

Your fond Father.
