Fox served in the Dardenelles, and on May 1915 received a gunshot wound. to the ankle and chest (severe) and was evacuated to England.  He rejoined his unit in France in August 1916, and was wounded again, this time in the wrist, in May 1917.  On 17 July 1917 Arthur was transferred to the Australian Flying Corps, 30 Training Squadron.  Mustered as 2nd Aircraft Mechanic.
