I knew Pte Bert Godby of A Co, 2nd Pltn, a Company Cook.  His number was about as stated.  he died of wounds at the CCS and was buried in the Military Cemetery at Warloy, and there is a cross on his grave.  The boys of the company were in the habit of frequently doing up the grave, and I think his relatives have been notified of the location.

This man was wounded at Pozieres on 36th July 1916 (not 1917)  He died at a DS of CCS, behind the lines.  I knew him well: we knew him as Bert.  I have seen his grave.  It is in a cemetery some miles behind Pozieres.  I am not positive but I think the grave is at Warloy.  I went down specially to see it.  There is a cross on it with his name on.  He came over from Australia in the 11th Rft with me and lived in one of the Melbourne suburbs.  He was a cook in A Co.

He was in B Coy as a cook.  He was wounded at Pozieres on the morning of 26th July 1916.  I saw him carried away.  He was wounded badly in the body - cannot say what happened afterwards was told he died.  He was called Bert.

Inf Cpl W H Anderson 3689  A Coy, 5th Battn

3448  Sgt E F Adair states that this man is buried at Pozieres.  He left Australia with him with 11th Rft on Oct 11th 1915.
