"I was told by Cpl H Harris (23 A M G Sect) that Pte James Grant (23 A) was killed by a shell on May 3rd at Bullecourt. The 23rd Battalion were with the 2nd Pioneers out there. I was told on the day it happened. I knew James Grant in Australia. He was blown to pieces".

Mrs. D. Grant, of 12 Wilson street, Moonee Ponds, has received official notice that her only son, Pte. J. A. Grant (4703), has been missing since May 3rd.
