Grigsby's application for a commission in the AIF shows that he'd had a State School eduction, passed his Merit Certificate, had a Junior Teacher's certificate, had passed the State Clerical Examination and Accountancy Victorian Institute.  On 26 January 1913 he had passed the exams to become a 2nd Lieutenant in the Australian Citizen Forces, had two "good certificates" in the 15th Brigade Schools in 1912-13, a "good certificate" at Officers' Training School at Broadmeadows in 1916, and passed "Very Good" at Duntroon Officers' Training School No 7 1917.  He had 6 years of commissioned service with the 58 Inf Regt.
