In the 1912 Electoral Roll Florence Groves was residing at 30 Richardson St, Essendon. His grandmother, Mrs Robertson, resided at 18 Shaftesbury Street, next to the Essendon State School.

DEATHS. GROVES.-Killed in action in France, May 12th, Henry Ernest (Ernie), younger son of Florence Groves, and brother of Anthony (on active service), grandson of Mrs. Robertson, Myola, Shaftesbury st., Essendon, and the late John Robertson, The Springs, Wallan Wallan: aged 20 years.

Word has been received that Lance-Corporal Henry Ernest Groves, younger son of Mrs. Florence Groves, and grandson of Mrs. Robertson, Myola, Shaftesbury st., Essendon, and the late Mr. John Robertson, The Springs, Wallan Wallan, was killed in action on 12th May. The deceased was 20 years of age and was in the 58th Battalion. His brother, Trooper Anthony Groves, who is in the 13th Light Horse, is still with the colours. Both were pupils of the Essendon State School.
