In 1914 John Francis Yeldham Hanlin was listed in the Electoral Roll as a student at Ormond College, Parkville.  Appointed as a Chaplain 4th Class in the AIF in England.   Embarked on the Themistocles with the YMCA as an Honorary 2nd Lieutenant.  Served with 10th Brigade in France from 24 May 1918 to 24 Nov 1918.  Returned Australia 4 Jan 1919, appointment terminated 19 Jan 1920.
