LIEUTENANT H. C. PARKER

A message was received recently stating that Lieutenant Harold C. Parker one of the most popular and prominent members of the Civil Service Club had been reported missing since a certain heavy engagement in France. Besides enjoying remarkable popularity among his own club fellows he is also highly respected and much esteemed by a large circle of friends connected with the various rowing clubs on the river and lake. From a rowing standpoint Lieutenant Parker   had a wonderful run of  success with his club, winning his maiden and junior races, excepting maiden pair, during 1911-12.

Commencing at the early age of nineteen he annexed his maiden-eight at Henley, maiden four at V.R.A. Regatta, double junior four at Nagambie and Colac, junior pair, Upper Yarra in season 1911-12 and in the following year he was successful in the junior eight which won the Founders Challenge Cup at Henley after a brilliant and stirring contest. His best win was perhaps his victory at Henley in 1913 when the Civil Service senior eight showed its marked superiority by winning the "Grand Challenge" race. Other prominent  victories include a senior four at Upper Yarra and a senior pair at Ballarat, both in season nevertheless considered one of the finest oarsmen in the State. This was unfortunately, to decline through private reasons. All rowing men hope to hear shortly of this fine sportsman and to learn of his general welfare.

2 Warrant Officer Alfred James Desmond embarked on 17 July 1915 with the Seige Artillery Brigade.  At the time of his enlistment he was 29 and an engineer, and was a member of the Royal Australian Garrison Artillery.
