"Charles Noble" McDougall was living with a woman known as Sarah McDougall at 44 Mackay St, Essendon, and named her as his next of kin when he enlisted. During the war he received serious injuries when he was blown up and buried by a shell in France. On 20 January 1919 he signed a Statutory Declaration to the effect that his true name was Cecil Norman McDougall, and his records were changed accordingly. He changed the name and address of his next of kin to Margarit McDougall, Mother, PO Box 1238, Honolulu. Within days he married in Birmingham to Alice Hipkins, a lathe operator. Sarah McDougall, according to a letter on her son's file, stopped receiving her wife's allotment. She also states they were not married. She later married a McEvoy, and lived in Coburg.
By 1924 McDougall had returned to Essendon, where he received his British War medal, the receipt mentioning the address 19 Nicholson St, Essendon. The sole mention of Cecil Norman McDougall is made in the 1933 Electoral Roll at Cowra, labourer. His B2455 mentions that he died in 1949. In the 1919 Electoral Roll a Charles Victor McDougall, labourer, is listed at the old address of 44 Mackay St, Essendon. Both Sarah Lovell and Charles Victor McDougall (labourer) are listed at that address in 1914.
Cecil Norman McDougall enlisted in the RAAF at some later period, with Alice McDougall, wife, as his next of kin.
