The Mayor (Cr. Pynor) has received a letter from Sgt. H. V. Memery, of Essendon, written from H.M. Queen Mary's Royal Naval Hospital at Southend-on-Sea. Sgt. Memery describes the conditions prevailing in Egypt, from which land he was not sorry to go. The fair land of France was a treat after the flies and sandy desert. While billeted in France, he witnessed many aerial fights. He describes the raids made on the German trenches by the Australians. Sgt. Memery was suffering from the effects of a gas shell explosion in the Big Push on 19th July, but at time of writing was progressing favourably.

Mrs. Mona Memery, of "Glen Grant," Mt. Alexander rd., Essendon, has received official notice that her husband, Sgt. H. V. Memery, who was severely wounded in France last July, is returning to Australia, and is expected to arrive early in April.
