OUR SOLDIERS
Private Percy G. Hicks, of Moonee Ponds writing to his cousin Miss Olive Jones from the front, states that he is now in the hospital, but was nearly quite well. They were glad to leave the boat, although it was a good friend and afforded plenty of amusement. Many a happy night they spent with their chaplain, who was a Melbourne man and was like a father to the chaps.
The morning they landed from the boat they could not hear themselves speak for cheering. There, were not many passengers, but they were, all sports, and did all they could to give the lads a good time. Then came the ship's captain, officers and men, and the boys' heads ached when they all went ashore.
The Red Cross were doing splendid work, and all were proud of them. The hospital authorities were really splendid, and treated him wonderfully; in fact, they could not have treated him better had he been on the verge of dying.
(Since the above letter was received Private Hicks, owing to illness, is returning to Australia.)
