Private Ernest Edward Warry is standing on the far right. The photo was framed at the Burlington Studios, Melbourne, but appears to have been taken in Egypt sometime between his arrival there on 8/1/1916 and departure for France in June 1916. The soldier on the far left is wearing the14th Infantry Battalion colour patch. The original of this photo is a large framed picture. (Photo courtesy of Jenny Coates.)
The Burlington Studio draws attention to their competent lady finishers, male crayon artists and imported
oak frames on the back of the preceding framed picture. (Photo courtesy of Jenny Coates.)
With what appears to be the same backdrop as the previous picture, this group is labelled "7 Section, 9/14 Egypt 1916" (Both the 9 and the 1916 have been hand corrected). Ern is in the back row, fourth from the left. The young fellow in the middle row, second from the right, is Private Henry Leonard Wallis, 22 of Moonee Ponds. The fellow on the far right of the middle row has "Kensington" sketched onto his hatband, as per the following detail:
This might be Private William Henry Webster, 19, jeweller of Kensington
who embarked with Ern on the Hororata with the 9th Reinforcements of the
14th Battaion. His regimental number is 2897 and he appears on the same
page of the Embarkation Roll as Ern, as does Henry Leonard
Wallis, no 2911. (Photo courtesy of Jenny Coates.)
Ern brought home this Turkish medal, given from 1915
until the end of the war, for acts of bravery or merit
in action. It may have been souvenired from a Turkish
prisoner in Egypt, though not necessarily by Ern.

"Our Kensington and Flemington Boys" This medallion was presented to Ern on his return
to Australia. It is made of 9 carat gold with the central ring of rose gold. It is not yet
known which organisation made these presentations. (Photo courtesy of Jenny Coates.)
The rear of the gold medallion is inscribed "E. Warry." (Photo courtesy of Jenny Coates.)
Ern Warry in later years, circa 1927 to 1930. At this time he
was living in Park St, Pascoe Vale and working as a french
polisher. The photo was taken at the Dover Studios at 141
