Recommendation for Distinguished Conduct Medal

1st A L H Brigade, Anzac Mtd Division    4-3-18
1st Signal Corp A E   7 Cpl Eric Holland

For conspicuous and distinguished conduct throughout the operations during the period 24/10/17 to 23/11/17 this NCO as motor cyclist despatch rider showed great devotion to duty, pluck and tenacity of purpose when accompanying the Brigade during the period.  He was the only motor cyclist of the Brigade who kept his machine running throughout the operation and it was only due to his pluck and determination that he was able to do his work ..... while travelling at night over broken and dangerous country.  His work as a despatch rider has been exceptional and he frequently had to carry the despatches at night between BHQ and Regt when the rest of communications had failed owing to the heavy rain.  This was a especially the case during the period 15/12/17 to 21/12/17 when the Brigade held the outpost line in the area TEMUDIVEN-265 towards the NANE EL AUJA.  This NCO enlisted in August 1914 and has never been absent from his unit (except on Port Said leave).  He landed at HELLES with the wireless section of the original landing and came off at the evacuation.
