"This officer was killed at 11.15 am 1-9-18 whilst leading his men into the front line preparatory to the attack on Mt St Quentin. Death was instantaneous, and was caused by a sniper's bullet. He is buried at Clery-Sur-Somme British Military Cemetery. A cross has been erected over the grave site by the Unit. Lt Hilt (sic) was a very gallant and promising Officer and his loss is keenly felt by the Unit. He was admired by all ranks. His wife and mother have both been written to personally by me".
