Recommendation for Military Cross
37th Battalion AIF Lieutenant William HUNTER

Near WARNETON, during a raid on the enemy trenches on 10th February 1918, he displayed conspicuous courage and devotion to duty while acting as O C Assault.  Although wounded on the way across NO MAN'S LAND he continued to command his party and to direct operations from the enemy's front line, sending back a continuous stream of information.  He refused to leave the enemy's parapet until satisfied that his party had withdrawn and then personally assisted to bring in his wounded.

Strength of Raiding Party - 9 officer and 195 Other Ranks.
