Private Hamish MacNab (missing) is the only son of Mrs. Johnstone, Charles street, Ascot Vale. He was in the 58th Essendon Rifles, and volunteered on his nineteenth birthday, early in last August. He came out from Scotland over four years ago, and previous to enlisting was attending the Central Business College.

NEWS OF SOLDIER DESIRED
Mrs. Jean Johnstone, of "Braeside," 33 Morphett Terrace, Ascot Vale, is
seeking, information regarding, her son, Private Hamish MacNab, of

B  Company, 7th Battalion, who was at the Gallipoli landing. He was

reported missing, and later, in June, 1915, was listed as wounded. Since
then his mother has had no word of him.

The Red Cross Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau wrote to Smith E C Pte 1124 in 1917 to enquire what he knew about MacNab, who had been missing since 1915 with no further information about him known.  No reply is included with the file.

 

McNab was mentioned in a letter from the father of Angus J S Pte 516 to the Defence Department, as having been reported wounded at Gallipoli, but nothing definite known.

*Mrs Caroline Martha Drysdale was a laundress living in Union rd, Ascot Vale.  Trafford Pettigrew was apparently living with the family when he enlisted.  One of the Drysdale boys also enlisted, Drysdale-C-E-Pte-11114 , and another son, John James Drysdale, married Agnes MacNab, sister to Hamish, in 1919.
