Recommendation for Military Medal

22nd Bn 5919  Pte Stanley TYTLER

For most conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at BROODSEINDE on 9.10.17. During the attack this man acted as a runner and carried messages continuously under the heaviest barrages.  His route lay overland and he was sniped at persistently on each of his journeys.  Despite fatigue and exhaustion he remained at his post, and without hesitation performed his duties cheerfully and well showing a complete disregard of personal risk and danger.  At night he acted as a guide and voluntarily went off into NO MAN'S LAND searched for posts which were in danger of being isolated.

Throughout his endurance and courage were remarkable and the services rendered of highest value.

Mr. Edward Draper to Miss Florance E. Duncombe [1921]

The Kensington Methodist Church was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Saturday, March 10, when Mr. Edward Draper, late 22nd Battalion youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Draper, of Barnawartha, was married to Miss Florance E. Duncombe, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Duncombe, of Kensington. The Rev. T. C. Rentoul (late chaplain A.I.F.) was the officiating clergyman. Miss B. Campbell presided at the organ, and Miss G. McMillan sang "I Love You Truly" while the register was being signed.

The church was prettily decorated with numerous wedding bells, horse shoes and silver swastikas. There were three arches of ferns and white flowers decorated with silver true lovers' knots and wedding bells. In each aisle was a quaint little white gate.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dainty gown of ivory crepe de chine. The skirt was caught up each side with white satin horseshoes and orange blossom. The long train was of ivory crepe de chine and her embroidered tulle veil was held in place by a wreath of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of white cactus dahlias, roses and fern.

The bridesmaid was Miss Ida E. Duncombe (sister of the bride). Her frock was of powder blue crepe de chine, hand-worked with ivy leaves and point lace stitching. Her hat was of black panne velvet and silk tulle, with velvet streamers, and she carried a shower bouquet of pale pink cactus dahlias, heath and fern, with black velvet streamers. The little train bearer, Miss Lorna MacCallum, wore a frock of pale pink crepe de chine and a pink tulle bow on her hair. She carried a basket of pink roses.

The bridesmaid's gift from the bridegroom was a mole colored suede hand-bag, and to the train-bearer a gold bangle. Mr. Stan Tytler, M.M. (late 22nd Batt.) was best man.

After the ceremony the bride's mother received the guests at "Castalia," Gordon-crescent, Kensington, where the wedding breakfast was held. The bride's travelling costume was of navy blue twill, and she wore a fawn velour hat. Mr. and Mrs. E. Draper will reside at 52 Francis-st., Ascot Vale.

A Wartime Wedding

Bill Tytler & Lillian Andrewartha's wedding,  21/11/1914.  Left to right: Hilary Watson, Stanley Tytler,  Ina Tytler,  Bill Tytler (seated),  Richard Andrewartha, Lillian Andrewartha, Fred White, Nellie Andrewartha.    Courtesy of Heather Tytler.

On Saturday Nov. 21st, was celebrated the union of two of our young people- Mr. W Tytler (a member of our School from childhood) and Miss Lillian Andrewartha (for many years a School member. The wedding was a very pretty affair, and the Church was nicely decorated , white being the principal color. The entrance way was lined with guests and onlookers when Mr. R Andrewartha escorted his sister to the altar, attended by three bridesmaids who looked very handsome in their neat attire. The bride was very sweet in her bridal array, the veil being so arranged as to leave her face in full view, and, altogether, the party was effective and pretty. Rev. W. Vawdon performed the ceremony most impressively. Mr. Fred White acted as best man with Mr. Stan Tytler as groomsman. The bridesmaids were Misses Nellie Andrewartha, Inez Tytler, and Hilary Watson. During the absence of the bridal party for the purpose of signing the register, Mr. Fred Harry sang 'The Song of Thanksgiving' in his usual effective style. Mrs. Harry played the incidental music very ably. A large number of guests were present at the Town Hall when appropriate toasts were given and responded to under the happy chairpersonship of Rev. Will Vawdon, after which a very pleasant evening was spent in a social manner. Everyone was quite happy and all joined heartily in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Tytler every joy and prosperity. The presents were numerous and beautiful."
