Correction In our last issue we stated that Sergeant Don. Kennedy, who had recently gained distinction at the front, was the son of Mr. W. A. Kennedy. This was an error, as he is the nephew of Mr. W. A. Kennedy and a son of Mr. E. A. Kennedy, of the Essendon Bowling Club.

Lieutenant Donald Webb Kennedy, 8 Bn AIF Recommendation for Military Cross.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on LIHONS on the 11/8/18. Lieut Kennedy was in charge of a platoon of one of the attacking companies. He displayed fine leadership and courage throughout the attack, taking charge of small parties of men who had become detached from their own command, re-organising the line when casualties had become severe and leading several rushes into enemy strong posts that were opposing our advance.
On one occasion a strong party on the enemy formed up and attempted to develop a counter-attack on a weak point of our line during the advance. The consequences would have been very serious had not Lieut Kennedy who, grasping the situation, turned a German machine gun that had just been captured, upon the enemy.
He pushed forward to do this and caught the enemy with enfilading fire thus causing them numerous casualties and forcing them to retire in disorder. His conduct throughout the whole operation was marked by the greatest courage and initiative. He set a splendid example to his men.

The recommendation appears not to have been accepted, as there is no indication on Kennedy's file that he received an award.
