Re Pte Kerris D 1668 and I'm only too willing to supply the information required. While on a fatigue party on the night of 4.2.17 I was working with Pte D Kerris when we were suddenly exposed to enemy shell fire which lasted about 3 hours. Whilst sheltering from this shelling Pte D Kerris was hit through the head with a piece of shrapnel and killed instantaneously. Pte Kerris was buried near Monsoon Trench. I knew Pte Kerris in civil life and we entered camp together and had remained pals until his death. Letter from: Pte Harry Woods A Coy 58th Battn AIF 27.7.17
