At Ploeg Street Armentiers on 28th May 1917, a raid was made on the enemy tranches, in the body of which 38th Btn took part.  The next morning the body of 2/Lieut Killingsworth was carried in by the stretcher bearers.  I do not know where Lieut Killingsworths' body was buried.

I am quite sure Lt Killingsworth is a prisoner of war in Germany.  On May 28th '17 our battalion made a raid on the German trenches opposite Plug St, Wood, in Belgium, near Armentieres.  They were very badly cut up, and out of 57 who went over from my company, only 15 returned.  Where possible, the bodies were brought back to our trenches, and a corporal from each company went along to identify them.  I attended for A Coy, and knowing Lt Killingsworth well, looked to see if his body was amongst the number.  It was not, and everything points to him having been captured as a prisoner.  We came over from Melbourne together on the Transport "Runic" leaving on June 20th '16

Prisoner of War Information Bureau Berlin.  Card exists.  Buried 28.5.17 at Warneton (left property) Enquiries are being made from Army Corps concerned as to cause and date of death and also exact location of grave at Warneton.  Left Property Office reports that the only thing sent in was his disc.

Heroes all!
And so our home shall see them nevermore!
And only tender memories remain;
And loving pride that takes the sting from pain,
Making them dearer than they were before.
And nearer, for they breathe a quickening
breath
Of inspiration into every soul
That enters here, and point us to a goal
That they have won, beyond the reach of
Death.
